Author: Homes Discovered

A survey of the country’s strongest metro areas has put Oklahoma’s two largest cities in the spotlight.

Oklahoma City is ranked third and Tulsa is seventh in a BusinessWeek report on the country’s 40 strongest metro areas.  The report stated that the country’s strongest economies shared one thing:  home prices that never got too high or too low.

The report stated that Tulsa has remained relatively stable, in large part because of the oil and natural gas industry.  Companies in the Tulsa area that were mentioned were Arena Resources, an oil and gas producer, and AAON, a rooftop heating and air-conditioning unit maker. Gross metropolitan product in the second quarter was down just 2.3% from a peak in 2008’s third quarter.  It also stated that home prices grew 2.5% in the second quarter compared with the same period a year earlier.

The report listed Tulsa’s unemployment rate in June at 6.8%, up from 4.0% a year earlier.
